2008/10/04: added pointer to Resources post
In a landmark lecture for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Arup director Peter Head explored how the world can begin to make the transition towards an ecological age of civilisation.
Drawing experience with projects such as Dongtan Eco-city in China, Peter Head’s Brunel International Lecture Peter Head explained how we can develop and retrofit urban centres to improve resource efficiency while maintaining or improving quality of life. He used ecological footprint analysis to show how we can move towards the goal of environmental sustainability, setting out a vision of life in a sustainable community of the future.
The article includes a pointer to the supporting paper Entering the Ecological Age: The Engineer's role. Chapter 8 has a biomimicry/biomimetics focus.
