A team led by Leena Patel at the University of Edinburgh have developed a wave-power device that can adapt to different wave speeds. Patel studied how lampreys adjust to varying currents. Genetic algorithms were then used to develop additional swimming patterns and improve efficiency. The results are applicable to any wave-power generator that relies on bobbing motion.
